We started on the first home at 2512 2nd Avenue West in Palmetto last week. We removed the old vinyl siding, stripped the window casings, pressure cleaned, and spruced up the yard. The new hurricane-rated windows have been ordered. A contractor will come this week to gut the interior. After the work in the interior is completed, Our Next Mission's volunteer crew will take over and decide on the next steps that need to be done to complete this renovation.
The second unit is located at 413 10th Avenue East in Bradenton. On Thursday, November 16th, we plan to start the clean-out of this unit. This will require all hands on deck. No special skills are required, only the willingness to help so we can move on to the next step, which is deciding what needs to be done to complete the renovation.
So how does a veteran qualify for one of these units? First, they have to live in Manatee County. Second, the veteran has to have an honorable discharge. He/she must have an annual income of at least $32,000, but no more than $51,200, if it is to be single occupancy. If his/her family is larger, the income requirements go up. These homes should be ready for occupancy by the second quarter of 2024.
These homes will be three bedrooms with one or two bathrooms. Additionally, they will be completely rehabbed with an all new roof, hurricane-rated windows, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, appliances, flooring, and central air/heat. The monthly payment is estimated to be less than $1,000 a month. This includes principal, homeowner's insurance, as well as property taxes.
